Disney's Pixar: Inside Out -- Thoughts [SPOILERS INSIDE]

via sarahprince

It has been about a week since the highly anticipated Disney's Pixar Inside Out was released into movie theaters. A week later and I still have the feels for how amazing this movie turned out to be. I begged my boyfriend to take me to see it the evening it came out, paying extra to go to Landmark Cinema (instead of Cineplex) and 3D--boy we were not disappointed!

For those who have not heard of the movie (but seriously, how have you not?), it is about an eleven year old girl named Riley and the emotions which control her personality, thoughts, and memories. They are known as Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust.

They live in HQ, which is assumingly in Riley's brain, and control her emotions towards situations in her life to create good (and bad) memories. These memories are stored into normal memories and core memories. The core memories create islands in Riley's minds which represent a big part of her life and her personality.

Riley, on the other hand, is your average eleven year old girl. She has a strong relationship with her parents, has strong bonds with her friends, plays hockey, is goofy, funny, silly, and has just a big bundle of joy for her parents to watch growing up

Unfortunately, as her family moves from Minnesota to California, Riley is left in an array of confusing emotions. It probably doesn't help that Joy and Sadness get sucked up into a memory discard tube with all of Riley's core memories making it difficult for her, and her remaining emotions, to control her own life.

The movie's main plot line focuses on Joy trying to get her and Sadness back to HQ, while watching Riley slowly lose herself little by little as she loses island after island of her personality. Along the way, they meet Riley's old imaginary friend; a scary clown Riley has suppressed in her unconscious; and they visit several places throughout Riley's mind, including Imagination Land, Memory Dump, Abstract Thought, and Dream Production. They even get to ride the Train of Thought.

I think this movie has reflected so positively, in the first week, because it hits home hard for many people. We all remember what it was like to be eleven. Whether it was remembering what it was like to be carefree, or how it felt to move away from your home and your friends, or just any change in your life you weren't expecting and not knowing how to react. We all kow how it felt to feel no control over your own feelings and emotions. We all have been there. We all know what it feels like.

Even the small details I, personally, could relate to. Like, Riley's imaginary boyfriend who would "do anything for Riley because [he] loves her", wanting to run away from home because you didn't know how to cope at home or her Imaginary Friend Bing-Bong who risked his life so that Riley could be happy! I literally could not contain my tears at this part!

Or how supportive Riley's family had been when she finally admitted she was not okay. I couldn't contain myself here, either.

This movie was just full of the feels! We all can relate to Riley because inside of us all, we all were/are/going to be Riley at some point in our lives.

Pixar did an amazing job on this movie. I literally could not hold in my feels or my tears. I was a hot ball of mess by the end because of how well done this movie was. I swear I lived every single one of the emotions inside Riley's head at least once within this movie--sneaky sneaky! I see what you did there Pixar!

Overall, it was totally worth watching. If you haven't seen it yet, I'd highly recommend you go see it soon!
