I've Been Nominated: Blogger Recognition & Liebster Award!

Thank you Ashlee (from Oh Sweet Samsara) for the nominations! You should all go visit her blog right after you read this post!). She is still new to the blogging community but has such a beautiful blog with awesome nerdy content (and who doesn't love that?! :D)

Before I begin, I'd like to note that I will also be double-nominating blogs. Since both awards require me to nominate around the same amount of blogs, I thought "why not!" because who doesn't like awards? The more the better, right? I will post the nominations at the end of the post.

The Blogger Recognition Award

The Rules
  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog.
  • List who you've nominated in the post. Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image below). Comment on each blog and let them know you've nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing!

My Blog StoryI know this is supposed to be brief but this is going to be kind of long, so hang in there.

I've had a couple blogs before I began jennibearrxo. I originally started blogging as a personal outlet. I tend to be an introvert (unless I am really comfortable with you, but even so, I still don't see you often) and prefer to write my thoughts, feelings and emotions than verbalizing them. We live in a digital culture where anyone can post their opinions on the internet and you're bound to find at least one person who shares the same views. So that's what I did.

My first blog (and one which will always be dear to my heart, but is quite inactive lately) was my Personal Tumblr, which I started in my freshman year of high school. I don't have the heart to deactivate it, though, because it holds so many memories. I used to blog every little thing on my mind--my first real break-up, all my high school boyfriends and cute adventures with them, hilarious moments with my friends, my feelings while I was being bullied in school etc. I loved Tumblr because while I was in high school there was a big community of other students around the world just like me--who struggled with relationships, who struggled with trust issues with friends, etc. While I didn't have very many friends in high school because I moved schools at the end of my freshman year, Tumblr followers were my friends.  I even met one of my ex boyfriends on Tumblr, who I ended up with for almost two years. Friends from school knew they were my "real" friends if I willingly gave them my Tumblr URL. Although I call it a "Personal Tumblr" it wasn't very personal, now that I think about it, because anyone could read it if they could figure out my generic username... While I tried to change it up a couple times, the user names used to be similar and easily connected.

Around the middle of my senior year in high school, I stopped blogging about my personal life. I guess it was because I was paranoid. I had just gotten out of a really bad break-up and people used to fish through my Tumblr to find out what was going on in my life.

Soon after I met my current boyfriend, Adam. Through the beginning of our relationship, I started to blog a little bit on my Super Personal Tumblr, and my Super Personal Tumblr ended up my primary blog as I began to experience love as a young adult, for the first time. At this point I was 18 years old and about to graduate high school. My blogging was still very choppy at this point because I just didn't have time as I spent time going on adventures with Adam, trying new food places, and playing video games.

As I was beginning university, Adam and I thought it would be an amazing idea to create a Couple Blog called #BaconFriedRiceCouple. On this blog, we shared our experiences as a couple, food reviews of restaurants we love (because we are major foodies!) and other random reviews here and there. It was mostly to share what we've been up to lately and give other couples ideas for dates, restaurant recommendations, etc. This blog has been inactive for a while, as we've been busy with school and work to collaborate new posts, go out on adventures, or try new food places.

I missed blogging so much, especially since Adam doesn't like to blog as much as I do, that I thought I'd open up my own blog and Adam supported it right from the beginning. That is how jennibearrxo was created! jennibearrxo actually was originally supposed to be a personal blog just to write for myself--much like my old Tumblr was for--but more-so about gaming than my love life. But since March 2015, my blog has grown to so many other great things--gaming, tv shows, movies, a recipe, adventures, books, etc. Its so amazing to see my blog grow as my content continues to add up! And I have met so many amazing other Bloggers along the way! I am so thankful to be part of such an amazing community of sweet, open-minded, people who are constantly willing to support one another in their own content creations!

  • Blog about whatever you want! Don't ever let anyone tell you what to post about! This is your blog, so own it! I once had someone tell me to "stay to one theme and stick to it!" but the way I see it, no person has one dimension. We have many dimensions of ourselves, so how can one only express them self fully without opening all doors that make up their life?
  • Don't be scared to comment! Commenting is one of the best ways to make connections with others. It shows other bloggers that you show interest in their posts, as well as it gives other bloggers a link back to your blog. It is a great way to get yourself known while making new friends, new connections, and possibly new people to do collaborations with in the future! You loved that post? Tell them you did! They'll appreciate it and so will you.

The Liebster Award

The Rules
  • Thank the person who nominated you and post a link to their blog on your blog
  • Display the award on your blog--by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a "widget" or a "gadget". (Note: The best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then uploading it to your blog post)
  • Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
  • Provide 11 random facts about yourself
  • Nominate 5 - 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have less than 1,000 followers (Note: You can always ask the blog owner this since not all blogs display a widget that lets the readers know this information!)
  • Create a new list of questions for the bloggers to answer
  • List these rules in  your post (You can copy and paste from here).
  • Once you have written and published it, you have to inform the people/blog that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!)

Ashlee's Questions:

Are you a gamer? If so, what's your favorite game and why?
I love to play games in my free time. Of all time, I think the overall The Sims franchise has been my favorite games. Especially Sims 3 Island Paradise, University life or Generations! I had all expansion packs, but those two were my favorite to play! I just love creating stores for imaginary people I've created. I'm enjoying Sims 4, so far and have bought all current stuff packs, game packs and the only expansion pack which has been released, but I haven't had much time to play it a lot because of school. I also play a lot of League of Legends and enjoy playing a lot because I like being part of a community--a very salty toxic community, but there are a lot of nice people you meet as well!

If you could meet any fictional character, who would it be?
Can I please meet Tina from Bob's Burgers? lol! Her awkwardness + my awkwardness would make such an awesome awkward party and we can dance and talk about butts, mermaids and unicorns together all day!

via Tumblr

What TV show character/comic book character/movie character are you most like?
Can I do a video game character? Because if so, I'd be Lulu from League of Legends! Because I'm short, I love all things purple, and want to turn people into cupcakes!

Um, but (almost) seriously, my friend said I am like Dora the Explorer

What's your favorite hobby that others might consider 'geeky'?
Every time I tell people I just meet that I play League of Legends, they make this face, and you just know they are thinking "gosh what a geek"... League isn't even really that Geeky :3

Who's your favorite villain/baddie?
Obviously its A from PLL. I can't believe I've devoted 5 seasons worth of my life for this show to STILL not know who A really is... I need help.

Who's your biggest superhero crush?
Captain America! He's forever my imaginary husband <33333 Like who isn't enjoying this right now? <3

Do you have any unusual phobias?
Not really? I don't think I do?

Are there any books that you think helped shape you into the person you are today?
While I was in my first every relationship, I read The Promise by Danielle Steeles and it got me through a really really hard time when we were long distance and having troubles in our relationship. Yes, we didn't last, but at the time, it gave me hope that one day our paths would cross again.

What's the best book you've read in the past year?
Obviously, To All The Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han! *hairflip* No but seriously, I have only read like three books this year and the ending of Paper Towns really disappointed me, so I chose this book over it. #SorryJohnGreenFans #IStillLoveQuargo

What's your favourite sci-fi or fantasy show and why?
I don't really watch sci-fi I don't think. Netflix apparently considers Video Game High School as a Sci-fi & Fantasy TV show, so I guess I'll say that one? I loved Video Game High School. If you are a gamer, and haven't seen it, GO WATCH IT NOW! And tell me you don't want to go to VGHS. Seriously, if there was a high school like that when I was in high school, I'd be one of the first to apply!

If you were invited to ride along in a TARDIS, where/what would be the first thing you'd travel to see?
I don't know if I'd actually accept the invitation to ride in a TARDIS. To be honest, time travel kind of scares me and I like being where I am now. So I'd probably just say "no thank you" and smile.

Random Facts:

  • I teach private vocal lessons at my house every Sunday morning
  • When I'm comfortable with a person, I make too much eye contact, but when I feel uncomfortable, I avoid eye contain at all costs. There's no in between with me.
  • I started singing when I was 3 years old. I'd like to get back into singing, but I just don't have the time with school, work, and this blog
  • I have an unhealthy obsession with trying to figure out who A is from PLL. After every episode, I have a discussion with my boyfriend's sisters about the episode and we share articles and theories through out the week until we get more clues in next week's episode. I just want to know.
  • Despite being Filipino, I don't like any Filipino desserts. Cassava Cake? Anything Ube? Leche Flan? Halo-Halo? No thanks.
  • I go to different coffee shops depending on the season. In the Fall, I go to Coffee Culture because its right outside of my school and during the Fall is when I am usually at school the most. In the Winter, I go to either Second Cup or Tim Hortons. I go to Second Cup for a Large Caramel Corretto and I go to Tim Hortons for their seasonal Candy Cane Hot Chocolate with whipped cream and candy cane pieces. In the Spring I usually go to Tim Hortons for Caramel Iced Coffee or Starbucks for a White Chocolate Mocha. And in the Summer I go to Starbucks only, for either a Venti White Chocolate Mocha Frapp with Chips or A Venti Passion Tea Lemonade.
  • The lady at the Tuck Shop at my university campus knows me and always knows exactly what I am ordering. If it is exam week, every single day I'll buy a sprite and two packages of Swedish Berries. If it isn't exam week, I usually just buy a bagel in the morning because there aren't any food places on the way to school, unless I want to walk a block.
  • I like to talk about food a lot
  • My boyfriend and I built each other Build-A-Bears on our one year six months, last year, for our monthaversary date! It was so much fun!
  • When I read a book, I like to listen to the Audio Book while following along with either a hard copy or paperback
  • I work at a frozen yogurt store but I don't really even like frozen yogurt

  1. Yay! I loved reading your answers!! I can totally relate to the eye contact thing, and I agree that the ending of Paper Towns kinda sucked:/ And I think all of us gamer girls will have to deal with people thinking we're geeky for playing games, even when the games aren't AS high on the geeky spectrum as others, haha!

    1. Thanks for the comment Ashlee! I was so disappointed with the ending of Paper Towns! Are you going to see the movie when it comes out on Friday? & Oh yeah the struggle of a gamer girl. In my digital humanities class, my professor was telling us how for every 10 guy gamers, there is 1 girl gamer and of those gamer girls, they are more likely than the rest of the gaming population to be harassed. u_u No one understands our struggle! lol

    2. I had no idea the movie was coming out so soon! I think I'll see it, since I did love the book up until the end. Are you a John Green fan? I'm pulling for a movie version of An Abundance of Katherines....hopefully someday!! And oh yeah, I definitely believe that statistic. I do come across a good amount of female players in WoW, but not nearly as many guys. We gamer girls are a rare breed!

    3. Yeah the movie actually comes out tomorrow! I am going to the Night On the Towns premier event for Paper Towns tonight! So so excited! I'll let you know how it is! & tbh, I only really read his books when I find out there's a movie coming out and the trailer is really cute! But I am a fan of him, himself. He has such a corky free spirit and I love that about him! Oh and I know what you mean! We have to stick together to make our breed more powerful! Girl power all the way! lol

  2. Thanks so much for the nomination!! I was so excited to write my own post! Check it out here: https://nicolee316.wordpress.com/2015/07/23/liebster-award/

    1. No problem at all Nicole! Loved reading your answers <3 I think Captain America is everyone's fictional go-to boyfriend! He's so adorable and fun-loving while also being so strong and rational!

  3. Hey Jennifer! Thank you so much for nominating me. I am sorry I did not notice before. I already recently did a Liebster Award post but I will definitely try to do the Blogger Recognition award soon. Thanks again! I love your blog.
~Chioma @ Blue Books and Butterflies

    1. No problem at all :)
And thanks girl! Can't wait to read your answers!
