My Lifestyle Favorites of 2016

Every so often, I tend to post a couple lifestyle posts on this blog. It isn't often, but it is actually one of my favorite things to share because it is the most relatable to others and is a more personal reflection of myself. Not all people have patience for planning and paper crafting; not all people enjoy video games and geek culture. That's okay. But to some degree, we all have a lifestyle. And while not everyone's lifestyle is similar, I think we can all agree that we enjoy learning about other people's lifestyles because it inspires us to learn about new products, visit new places, and try new things. I have always loved watching and reading lifestyle videos/posts online and seeing what others are up to lately.

Kat Von D Eyeliner

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner | As far back as I can remember, I have done winged eye-liner. It has always just been my thing, I guess. It always makes me look more awake, have bigger eyes, and generally makes me feel more confident. Because of that, I have used liquid eyeliner all of my teenage years. Now that I am no longer a teenager, I thought it was finally time to say goodbye to my beloved drugstore brand eyeliners and give some luxury brands a try. I have heard great things about the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and knew this had to be one of the first I try. Thankfully, I fell in love with it from the start! It glides on so smoothly, it doesn't gush out, and it is such a bold black color. Absolutely my favorite eyeliner so far!

Benefit ka-BROW! Cream Gel Eyebrow Color | In 2016, I also fell into the whole "Brows on fleek" trend. Not to say that my brows are amazing--because I still have a lot of work to do to perfect this beautiful art--but gosh darn does this product help! First of all, I love the design of the packaging. How freaking cute is that?! I also love how it comes with a brush built into the handle. A little bit of product goes a long way, which is also nice. I only have to dip in the cream gel once per eyebrow to fill in the whole thing!

Urban Decay Naked 2

Urban Decay Naked 2 Swatch

Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics | Similar to eyeliner, this year I thought I'd try out a luxury eye shadow palette instead of my normal drugstore brands. I have always wanted the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, but they were always super expensive and had a lot of colors I wouldn't use on a daily basis--so in my head, it didn't make sense to invest in one. When the Naked 2 Basics was released, it had a lot of neutral matte colors I knew I'd use often and it was affordable. I don't regret buying it one bit! I use this palette almost every day! Because the colors are all so neutral and matte, there are so many different looks you can create. It is great for both soft every day looks and dramatic night-out looks--which is kind of what I looked for.

Aveeno Lotion and Body Wash

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion & Skin Relief Body Wash | I have struggled with Eczema as far back as I can remember. Because of that, Aveeno products have become my holy grail. They tend to be fragrance free (which help prevent irritation) and continuously keep my skin feeling soft as a baby's bum! Especially in the winter time when everyone's skin is feeling the driest because of the harsh cold, Aveeno is my life saver. When I feel a patch starting to form, I just slap on some Aveeno moisturizing lotion and its gone within a couple of hours!

E.L.F. Contour Brush

E.L.F. Contouring Brush | Another interesting trend I've fallen into in 2016 is contouring. *Gotta sculpt dat face doe*. Originally, I was using an angled powder brush, and while that was okay, it wasn't doing what I wanted it to do. So I thought I'd start small and buy myself an E.L.F. Contour brush to see how different it was. It turns out it is actually amazing! The brush hairs are so soft on the face and because it is so compact, it put product where I want it to go! Love it!

Crest Toothpaste

Crest 3D White Toothpaste | I actually received this toothpaste for free from BzzAgent to review. I was pretty skeptical at first because I generally don't use teeth whiteners. Within the first 24 hours, I already noticed a difference. It did make my teeth look whiter. But bare in mind, even though it made my teeth look whiter, it also had it's downfalls. If you don't like the taste of fluoride--aka me!--you may not like it. At first, I thought it tasted disgusting, but the more I used it, the more I got used to the taste. Now, I don't mind it at all. Also, after every time I'd brush my teeth, my teeth would feel pretty sensitive for a little bit (Maybe 5 minutes or so). I asked my dentist about that and he said that with any whitening product, sometimes the chemicals that make your teeth white will cause your teeth to feel sensitive and if I feel uncomfortable to stop using it. It wasn't painful to me and only stayed for five minutes so I could bare it. In the end, despite its downfalls, it really does make your teeth whiter which I loved. I, now, buy this toothpaste on my own and use it every day!

Polaroid Camera

Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 | I've really been into memory keeping during 2016. I bought a Fijifilm Instax Mini 8 in 2015, but didn't have much use for it until this year. Every time I go on a fun adventure with my friends or have a milestone in my life, I take an instant photo. Film is kind of expensive, but it is such an amazing feeling to look through old photos--physical photos--and remember all of the good times spent throughout the year!

Networking for Introverts

Networking For People Who Hate Networking by Devora Zack | I have really been trying to network more but I'm extremely shy and awkward. Anyone who knows me in person knows that if I am uncomfortable, I am the biggest awkwardest potato you will ever meet. I have my moments where I can get along with people right off the bat--but those are rare. To combat my anxiety of socialization, I started reading this book. I got the e-book version, but there is also a hard copy. It is an extraordinary book that helps you assess yourself and guides you into learning to combat your fears to network with others. Totally worth the read.

Lisa Currie Scribble Diary

You, Me, Us by Lisa Currie | This is an amazing book to do with another person. I won't go into full details because I've already done a review (read it here) of this book; but this book is an amazing bonding book to do with another person--whether it is your partner, your best friend, your sibling, your uncle, your parent. your grandma; whoever you want! Adam and I started this book together when we were having difficulties in our relationship. We were very distant because we were both working full time; only seeing each other maybe one a week or once every two weeks. It really took a toll in our relationship. When we started using this book, we would fill out a couple pages every time we saw one another; and throughout the exercises it made us remember the little things within our relationship that we loved.
